This little light..
June 13, 2010
Here is my youngest at her Waldorf preschool midwinter lantern festival. It is such a lovely event that includes a candle lit story time, a lantern walk, a winter queen, gnome grotto’s hidden in the woods, a big bonfire, fire songs and soup and bread.
It is a wider community event and everyone is welcome. The symbolism of the celebration is that through dark times, we all have a light within us which always prevails. These festivals are usually timed for mid winter, a reflective, quiet time.
This is my favorite celebration, and this year, Zuva was particularly enchanted staring at each gnome grotto as if it she belonged to a whole different world.
I’m glad it is so dark at these festivals, my tears of gratitude can remain my own.
