Spot the difference….

September 14, 2011

The other mom turned to me with great enthusiasm after her tour of the primary school. “It is just like the Waldorf pre-school! There is outside time and playtime and music time. Really. It’s just the same.”.

The woman knows me. She knows I have two older children.  She knows I am a teacher and an early childhood specialist. She knows that I have spent hours in the classrooms to which she is referring and even know the teachers personally. (Did you notice the Arithmetic Village books?)

I didn’t want to burst her bubble.

A short list of differences:

Teacher ratio (1:26 or 2:14) , color scheme, classroom acoustics and entire education philosophy.

Thanks, but I’ll keep my little one in the calm, quiet, lower ratio for at least one more year, possibly forever…

Kim, did you take these pictures, or do you have a way for me to get them. I need to show them to my students. We had a discussion about this very thing in class tonight. Email them or send me a link.
    Thanks,
    Sherri

Yep..a completely different starting place and a very different method of measurement and chart for success.
